A new Wonder Man video sees Yahya Abdul-Mateen II do an interview in character as Simon Williams.
Wonder Man is the forthcoming Marvel Television miniseries created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest. Premiering on Disney+ later this year, the show will see Abdul-Mateen II play the titular character while Ben Kingsley will reprise his role as Trevor Slattery.
What happens in the Wonder Man video?
Shared on X by Marvel Studios, the Wonder Man video sees Abdul-Mateen II’s Simon Williams answer questions about his history with the Wonder Man character at the premiere of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
“I grew up a really big fan of Wonder Man, really big fan of comics,” he says in the video. “It was actually the first movie that I saw in the theater with my father when I was very young. And, you know, that day, I left the theater wanting to be a superhero. So, it’s amazing, and this is actually a very beautiful full-circle moment for me. Incredible.”
The interviewer then says, “Now, we’ve heard you’ve become close with problematic public figure Trevor Slattery, aka The Mandarin. Can you tell us a little bit more?” Before he can answer, however, Simon’s PR person ushers him away.
In Wonder Man, Simon is an actor stuntman who “auditions to become the lead superhero in a new TV show,” per TechRadar. “Little does he know, though, that he’s actually a superpowered individual.”
How Trevor Slattery — who made his MCU debut in 2013’s Iron Man 3, where he was revealed to be an actor who was hired to pose as the Mandarin — factors into the story remains to be seen, though the brief footage that’s been released for the show seems to suggest that Kingsley’s character gives Simon some acting advice.
Marvel’s Wonder Man will premiere on Disney+ this coming December.
