Hull FC’s Harvey Barron and Lloyd Kemp celebrate at the end of the match

Lloyd Kemp has paid tribute to Hull FC’s big credit: youth development. The Black and Whites have continued to hand out opportunities for up-and-coming talent this year, with Kemp, who played four times at senior level, stating it’s an area the club should be proud of.

Aiming to mimic the junior success seen at the likes of Wigan, St Helens, and Leeds, Hull, who fielded 12 academy-produced players in victory against Leigh last month, have placed a big emphasis on bringing through club-produced players. That has seen outside back trio Harvey Barron, Lewis Martin, and Davy Litten backed as some of the first names on the teamsheet this season, having grown from the academy to the reserves to the first team.

And now the desire, from Head of Youth Richard Tate to academy coach Francis Cummins and first-team head coach John Cartwright, is to bring through more, with Lloyd, alongside twin brother Callum, hoping to be two more players that can break into the side in the years to come.

For Kemp, that serves as inspiration and also gives confidence, with the teenager poised to learn his craft and develop at a club that will continue to reward hard work with opportunity.

“It’s a massive credit to the youth system that’s been set up and the way the club has been run,” Kemp told Hull Live. “It’s also a massive testament to the people who have put effort into all of us young lads – it’s something the club should be proud of.

“Franny and Tatey, again I’ve got nothing but good words to say about them. They’ve helped me come through scholarship and academy—they’ve been amazing. They’ve put so much development into us, so much work, both on and off the field – a lot of credit has got to go to them.

“It’s also a massive credit to John, Lasty (Andy Last), and Grixy (Simon Grix)—the effort that they’ve put in for us is starting to show, and for them to be back us, it’s a nice feeling. I’ve got nothing but good things to say about all of them. They’ve helped us out massively this year. They’ve been great.

“But this is just the start, and we know we have to keep working hard to improve and we will. That’s the challenge. I’m looking forward to next year.”
