Lola Young has been met with an outpouring of support from fans after announcing that she’d be ‘taking a break’ from the public eye, days after she collapsed on stage in New York. And the news came just weeks before the Messy singer was due to perform in Newcastle to launch her new album.
One of the biggest stars of 2025, Lola has been on the stage at huge events over the last few months and was ready to launch new album ‘I’m Only F**king Myself, which will most certainly hit number 1 when it is released in a few weeks time. Things took a turn for the worse at the weekend for Lola, who first shot to fame when her cover of Together in Electric Dreams was used for the John Lewis Christmas advert, during a performance at the All Things Go festival in New York. She was seen visibly motioning to her team that something wasn’t quite right, before falling backwards and collapsing in front of the thousands of fans in attendance. She was then carried off stage.
The incident sparked concern amongst her ever growing fanbase and then on Tuesday evening, the 24-year-old revealed that she was stepping away from the spotlight entirely, taking to Instagram to write: ‘I’m going away for a while. It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future. Thank you for all the love and support. I’m so sorry to let anyone down who has bought a ticket to see me, it hurts me more than you know. Obviously you will be entitled to a full refund.”
She added: ‘I really hope you’ll give me a second chance once I’ve had some time to work on myself and come back stronger. Love you all,.”
Lola was due to play the Boiler shop in Newcastle city centre, with an exclusive album launch gig announced in July, in coinjunction with HMV and all tickets snapped up as soon as they were made available. It’s understood that fans will soon be contacted in regard to getting a refund. She also had gigs in the likes of Liverpool, Lindon and Birmingham lined up, before heading over the Atlantic to tour Canada and America.
