A man in his 30s developed an “obsession” with a 60-year-old woman and “breastfed” from her as a way to “get back at his mother.” Michael Jones, 32, reached out to the woman despite being banned from contacting her, Caernarfon Crown Court heard today.

Jones had previously assaulted the woman and was under a restraining order when he encountered her three times this summer, including one instance of “breastfeeding” from her, thereby violating the order. Today, a judge at Caernarfon Crown Court sentenced him to a total of 15 months in prison. The court was told Jones had admitted to causing grievous bodily harm to the woman without intent.

In June, he was handed a 16-month jail term, suspended for 18 months for that offence. However, the court heard today Jones, of Glan Cadnant, Caernarfon, met the same woman three times in July, reports North Wales Live.

Prosecutor Amy Edwards said the woman saw Jones on a cycle path in Caernarfon. He looked “tired” so she left him a bottle of water.

They messaged each other on Facebook afterwards and met in a park in Caernarfon at night in July.

The woman said she wanted to tell Jones that their relationship was over, and for him to stop contacting her. She said it was a “mother and son” type of relationship whereas he classed himself a “caregiver”.

Ms Edwards said the defendant told her he had a “hatred towards women” and “an odd fascination with (this woman’s) breasts.” He became emotional.

Days later they met on a cycle track again. They kissed consensually and “she allowed him to breast feed for 10 minutes”. He told her he spoke to women of her age “as a way of getting back at his mother”, said the prosecutor.

The woman later said she knew it was “strange behaviour” but it had been part of their relationship.

On July 14, Jones called the woman, saying he was starving and asked her to come to his flat. However, when she arrived, he initially refused to let her leave, the court heard.

The woman eventually left and stayed with a friend for a period of time. Later, on July 28, Jones disclosed to his probation officer that they had been meeting secretly in “concealed” locations.

The probation officer told the police. In a statement the 60-year-old woman said her health had worsened due to the stress of her ordeal.

She said: “I know he’s obsessed with me. I know from experience that the obsession is dangerous.”

Dafydd Roberts, defending, said Jones has a new focus because he has a girlfriend.

Mr Roberts added: “While she talks about the harm she suffered her conduct suggests she was more prepared to have this contact than she admits.”

She met him late at night in quiet locations. However, Mr Roberts said Jones does have “attachment problems”.

“He knows he should not have been having contact with her but he could not stop himself,” said Mr Roberts.

The judge Her Honour Nicola Jones noted that the woman was “very complicit” in what was going on. The judge told the defendant he had mental health and other problems but said he had breached the restraining order three times.

She jailed him for three months for the breaches and activated 12 months from his suspended sentence, making a total of 15 months’ imprisonment.

The restraining order not to contact his victim was extended for three years to end on June 5, 2030.
