Ipswich Borough Council is currently accepting consultations on plans for a new 18-hole golf course to be built on an unused area of the park.
Friends of Christchurch Park was one organisation that was contacted for their thoughts, and in their response, it said it was “generally supportive” of the plans with regards to its aim of “increasing both the usage of a park space and the range of activities for children and families available”.

It did raise a couple of concerns, however, including the butterfly garden being in close proximity and being impacted by the noise of the golf course, the financial viability of the golf course, limited detail on the operation of the golf course and the “attractive green space” it would sit on being disturbed.
FOCP, in turn, objected to the plans until some answers could be provided.
Historic England, on the other hand, said it had no objection to the plans on heritage grounds, stating that the “reuse of the site for another club-based sport seems broadly appropriate”.
The council will make a decision on the plans in due course.
