Malick Thiaw’s excellent form for Newcastle United has not resulted in call up to the German national squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers, although Magpies’ team-mate Nick Woltemade has been included in the group.

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann has named his squad for the games against Luxembourg in Sinsheim on October 10 and the trip to face Northern Ireland in Belfast on October 13.

Woltemade keeps his place in the squad after scoring three goals so far for Newcastle, including strikes against Arsenal and Union Saint-Gilloise in the last few days.

The striker has impressed since signing for United in a club record £65m deal from Stuttgart at the end of August, and after being elevated to the senior Germany squad in the summer, he will he continue to compete a place up front, along with Maximilian Beier and Jonathan Burkardt.

However, while Thiaw has also made an excellent start to his United career, it has not been enough to earn a recall to the German squad.

Nagelsmann has brought Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck back into the group after he missed the last intenrational break with a knee problem, but Thiaw will not add to his three caps to date.

The 24-year-old has taken his chance with Newcastle following Fabian Schar’s concussion, and has started the last four games in all competitions since impressing as a second-half substiture against Barcelona.

United paid £34.3m for his services in the summer after they struck a deal with AC Milan in August, with head coach Eddie Howe looking for a long-term successor to Schar, who will turn 34 in December.
