Another strong result for the young Belgian.

Flat, fast and action-packed. These were the ingredients of Friday’s Zwevezele Koers, the 150km race held in West Flanders. Soudal Quick-Step came to the start with five riders – Gil Gelders, former Belgian Champion Yves Lampaert, Pieter Serry, Bert Van Lerberghe, and Jordi Warlop – and made sure of going on the attack as soon as the race got underway.

Various groups formed on the first laps, and our team was involved in many of these moves, but the peloton reacted each time. Eventually, in the final part of the race, a small group managed to jump clear and maintain their margin on the chasers, and from there, Lionel Taminiaux (Lotto) took the win.

The chasers came home a couple of seconds later, and Gil Gelders – who finished fourth just a few days ago in Textielprijs Vichte – sprinted to tenth place, just ahead of teammate Pieter Serry.
