Sheffield Eagles have confirmed the release of two more players following the conclusion of the 2025 Championship season.
The Eagles announced the departures of eight players last month with the likes of Matty Dawson-Jones, Kris Welham, Eddie Battye and Danny Craven all moving on. And, the club are in the process of retaining players with new deals for the 2026 season and beyond with Joel Farrell being the latest renewal announced by the club.
However, a club statement has confirmed that two player have been released from the their contracts, with Tyler Dickinson and Nick Staveley leaving the Eagles.
Serious About Rugby League has launched a brand new podcast which can be watched in full on our YouTube channel here.
Dickinson’s departure comes following his request to leave the club with immediate effect. The forward hasn’t played since June and in August the Championship club posted to confirm the had spent time in intensive care.
The statement at the time read that in the days after his last outing on June 1, Dickinson suffered an accident which resulted in him falling seriously ill.
The club confirmed that he was on the comeback trail, with the forward working towards a recovery. But, the former Huddersfield Giants and Batley Bulldogs man won’t be making a return, for the Eagles at least, having asked to be released from his deal in South Yorkshire.
Former Hull FC man Staveley has also left the Eagles with his exit coming by mutual consent.
Staveley leaves Sheffield without making a senior appearance for the club, with his only game time coming while on loan at Goole Vikings, where he made five appearances and scored one try.
Staveley left Hull in February and joined up with Castleford Tigers on a trial basis. However, he failed to earn a Super League deal and eventually joined up with the Eagles. His next move remains to be seen.
