George Russell has reassured fans that “there’s nothing to worry about” concerning his Mercedes contract negotiations.

The 27-year-old’s current deal runs out at the conclusion of the 2025 season, yet Toto Wolff has still not offered fresh terms to either of his current drivers. Russell’s contract discussions have dominated headlines since before the summer hiatus.

Max Verstappen was strongly rumored for a switch to the Silver Arrows, but after he secured his future with Red Bull through 2026, the route became clear for the British driver to sign extended terms.

Nevertheless, more than two months after Verstappen’s commitment at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Russell’s new agreement remains unannounced.

According to the Mercedes driver, however, there is no cause for alarm. Before the Singapore Grand Prix, Russell faced a direct question about whether a contract had been finalized with only a public announcement pending.

“No,” he responded. “I told you, you’d be the first to know when there’s something to report.”

When pressed about how long the talks have lasted, he continued: “No, I think for any driver, when you get to a certain point in your career, things have to be done right. I think every time you renew a contract, it’s the most important one of your life, and it has to be done with good care. There’s nothing to worry about, and it will get done.”

With just seven races left in the 2025 season, the clock is ticking for Mercedes and Russell to finalize an agreement before the campaign concludes in Abu Dhabi. Yet the British driver remains unfazed by the possibility that talks could extend beyond the season’s end.

“No, I don’t think it should, to be honest,” he said. “Things are moving and progressing, and, as I’ve said on numerous occasions before, between races it’s not like we sit at home on the sofa with our feet up and nothing else is going on.

DON’T MISS…

“I’ve been in Brackley and Brixworth this week, working hard on the sim, looking ahead also to next year. Last week, a couple of sponsor events, training, getting back in shape. So, our schedules are extremely busy and, as I said, there is no necessary danger of that happening, but if it does, it does. But I don’t expect it to.”

Mercedes team principal Wolff is simultaneously negotiating a fresh deal for Russell’s youthful teammate, Kimi Antonelli. The Italian sensation has faced a difficult debut season with the Silver Arrows, though the standout moments of his 2025 campaign have shown sufficient promise to warrant another opportunity to demonstrate his abilities.
