Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres now looks unrecognisable from his days scoring goals for the Reds. Once nicknamed El Nino, translated to ‘the kid’, Torres now looks anything but since piling on the muscle over the last five years.
Torres is best known for his time at Anfield. He struck 81 goals across three-and-a-half years as he became an instant Liverpool Icon, before leaving to join Chelsea in 2011.
Since hanging up his boots in 2019, having scored 263 goals in 768 games across his career, Torres, now 41, underwent a significant body transformation as he began coaching at his boyhood club Atletico Madrid.

The ex-forward stunned fans as he emerged back onto the scene in 2021, following the Covid lockdown, when he appeared in an Instagram video promoting an Asian casino.
With rippling trapezius muscles, a huge chest and wide back, Torres looked a far cry from the lean, albeit strong, no. 9 Liverpool fans were used to seeing.

While it seems he hasn’t kept up the same gym regime over the years, appearing ever so slightly smaller in stature these days, Torres still works out a lot and discusses his love for fitness on his social media channels.
The Spanish star’s passion for the gym shouldn’t come as a surprise considering Torres owns his gym chain called Nine Fitness. The brand started in 2013 and he has since opened several gyms across Madrid.
Despite his frosty exit, Torres returned to Anfield in 2024 to take part in a legend’s match against Ajax with the likes of Steven Gerrard also playing. Naturally, Torres scored and his relationship with the Kop looked to have come full circle as they cheered the striker on and off the pitch.

On his move to Chelsea, Torres claimed he had no choice but to move clubs. He said Liverpool were intent on signing young players to ensure success down the line, rather than stars who could make them an instant force to be reckoned with.
“They wanted to bring in young players, to build something new,” Torres is quoted as saying in 2016’s Ring of Fire: Liverpool FC into the 21st Century – The Players’ Stories by Simon Hughes. “I was thinking to myself, this takes time to work. It takes two, three, four, maybe even 10 years. I didn’t have that time.
“I was 27 years old. I did not have time to wait. I wanted to win. Here we are five years later and they are still trying to build – around the same position in the league as when I left.”

While the move to Stamford Bridge sullied Torres’ legacy on Merseyside to some extent, time and the fact the Spaniard never quite hit the same heights at the Blues, have healed relations over the years.
Speaking in 2019, Torres elaborated on his feelings for Liverpool. He said: “I’m really proud to say I will support Liverpool forever, it doesn’t matter what happened.
“Even when things between us were not at their best, I felt that I needed to support Liverpool. The city, fans and club will always be in my heart because it’s the way I feel and I cannot change that.”
