On Sunday, a blaze ripped through an industrial unit next to the business’s production kitchen.

While nobody was injured, staff say the building was deemed structurally unsafe.

They told loyal customers on social media that both its branches in Hamilton and Bothwell have had to close, with no reopening date set.

The fire means the bakery has had to let four members of staff go.

In a video, staff said: “The building is not in a good way, and we are not going to get back into it.

“We are still waiting to find out if they will allow us in to salvage our equipment, which as far as I know, is in good working order. It just needs cleaning.

“If they do allow us to do that, we will be moving our production back to our Hamilton shop.

“It means we probably won’t be able to open our Bothwell shop for a while.

“We’ve had to let four of our staff members go, and it is not for any fault of their own. It absolutely sucks.”

Cadzow Bakehouse added in the caption: “For now, both shops are shut and all baking has halted with no reopening date set.

“We’ll keep you all updated where possible. Any questions, just get in touch to ask.

“As Ben says, if anyone is hiring, looking for a sick barista, a magician in the kitchen, customer service savant, or a piece artiste, then please, please give us a shout. We have some amazing people in need of employment.”

Customers flocked to the comments to react to the “terrible” news.

One wrote: “So sad to see this post. You have been an incredible addition to Hamilton, and I hope that you recover from this and can rebuild your wonderful business. The good people of Hamilton will be right behind you.”

Another said: “So sorry for you. Can tell you are truly gutted and devastated. I do hope you find another unit soon. I’m sure your loyal followers will support you still, and you will get back up and running soon.”

A third added: “Sorry to hear this. You’ve got amazing local support and they will be all queuing up when you open back up. Some tough times ahead, but you’ve got a loyal customer base who will be waiting and ready when you are.”

A fourth weighed in: “Devastating news, glad everyone is safe and hopeful you can retrieve your appliances and equipment. Look forward to hearing of your triumphant return.”
