Perhaps the most impressive part of Chelsea’s win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge was the fact they did so with a mountain of injury problems in their first team squad.

Fitness issues at the back saw Josh Acheampong and Benoit Badiashile start together at centre-back, although neither finished the game due to their own concerns.

This saw Chelsea end the game with four full-backs making up their defence, while a number of other stricken stars watched on from the bench.

One of those was Cole Palmer, who was one of those celebrating at full-time after Estevao Willian’s dramatic winning goal downed the champions.

Palmer mobbed Estevao at full-time, however there was some more concerning footage of the England international after the game too.

As Sky Sports showed in a post-match video package, Palmer was jumped on by Jorrel Hato in the celebrations, however clearly suffered discomfort in his groin as a result.

Palmer started the first game of the season against Crystal Palace, however his only other start was against Manchester United, with his appearance only lasting a few minutes before he was taken off.

While it is great that the club are not so reliant on their star man anymore, it is clear that they are a better side when he is on the pitch, and will be hoping that it is not too long before he returns.

Enzo Maresca made the decision to leave Palmer out until at least the international break, with his injury proving a difficult one to diagnose.

The club conducted scans which returned positive results on his groin, however there is clearly still discomfort he is dealing with.

After being unavailable for selection for Thomas Tuchel and the England squad, he will now be given at least two weeks before Chelsea return to action against Nottingham Forest.

With a long season ahead competing on four fronts, there will be a plan not to rush him back into action, and make sure he can perform at his best throughout the campaign.
