Police have sealed off a section of Birmingham city centre amid reports of an incident.

Cordons have been placed across the entrance to a set of stairs next to the entrance to the Bullring Shopping Centre with officers standing guard.

Several police vans and ambulances were also seen parked close to the complex around 5.10pm on Sunday (October 5).

The nature of the incident is currently unknown and seems to be limited to the walkway to New Street Station by the old Zara.

West Midlands Police are investigating and will be providing details shortly.

There are no reports of any road closures and the rest of the centre is unaffected.

Jordan Hart, 27, from Sheldon, said: “I saw about eight police cars, two British Transport armed police officers and two officers on bike patrol.

“The cordons are outside the Bullring and the other cordon is across the little gulley way leading to the Bull statue.

“The police are just standing within the cordon and people are asking what’s happened.

“There were crowds just standing and watching hoping to see something.”
