Hearts fans are the tightest in the Scottish Premiership – with supporters most likely to dodge buying a round of drinks.

A poll of 2,000 footy fans found that over Scotland as a whole, 20% confessed to being serial round dodgers.

The study, however, found that fans of table-topping Edinburgh side Heart of Midlothian, were the most likely to be tight-fisted.

The poll found that 33% of fans of the Jam Tarts admitted regularly ducking out of buying a round in their local pub.

Among the tactics used by penny-pinching fans, include nipping to the loo when it’s their round, saying they’ve forgotten their wallet – or simply saying they were skint.

Some even pretended to be on the phone when it was their round, or sneaked out for a fag.

Aberdeen fans were the least likely to sidestep getting a round in, with just 8% admitted doing it on a regular basis, the study by married dating site illicitencounters.com found.

The League of Shame when it comes to dodging rounds was found to be as follows:

1 – Hearts – 33% 2 – Dundee – 30% 3 – Rangers – 28% 4 – St. Mirren – 26% 5 – Celtic – 24% 6 – Livingston – 20% 7 – Falkirk – 18% 8 – Hibs – 15% 9 – Kilmarnock – 14% 10 – Dundee United – 13% 11 – Motherwell – 11% 12 – Aberdeen – 8%

Hearts fan Jeremy Robertson, 54, said he preferred buying ‘his own drinks’ rather than getting a round in.

He said: “It’s fine when there’s just two of you, but when there’s a big group a round can easily cost £50.

“If you end up being one of the first to buy a round for everyone, you’re lucky if all the people you’ve bought a drink for are still there when it comes to their turn.”

In England, Arsenal fans were the biggest skinflints, with the league as follows;
