Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance will be on-site this year for the Retired Racehorse Project’s Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, serving as a sponsor of the Freestyle discipline. The 2025 Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, presented by Thoroughbred Charities of America, will take place at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., on Oct. 8-11, 2025. The Thoroughbred Makeover showcases the talent and versatility of off-track Thoroughbreds while supporting their transition to successful second careers. The Freestyle discipline will take place on Thursday, Oct. 9, in the Covered Arena beginning at 8 a.m. This discipline is a free-form competition designed to demonstrate the skills of the trainer’s choice.
Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance will host a booth at the vendor fair during the Thoroughbred Makeover, where riders and attendees can learn more about accredited aftercare and its vital role in ensuring the long-term care of retired racehorses. Branded merchandise will be available in exchange for donations, with proceeds directly supporting accredited aftercare programs that provide lifelong care and retraining for Thoroughbreds.
“The Retired Racehorse Project is grateful for Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance’s renewing support of the Thoroughbred Makeover,” said Kirsten Green, Executive Director, Retired Racehorse Project. “The aftercare industry in the United States is a diverse ecosystem of entities, collectively working towards a shared goal of positive post-racing outcomes for Thoroughbreds. Programs like the Makeover bolster that effort are an essential part of the ecosystem, and we applaud Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance’s commitment to our programming.”
Of all the entries in the Thoroughbred Makeover, 48 horses will represent 14 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance-accredited organizations, with at least one graduate competing in each discipline, including eight in Freestyle. These entries include horses cared for and retrained by accredited organizations and competing through the platform provided by the Thoroughbred Makeover, highlighting the different roles within the aftercare community that support retired Thoroughbreds as they transition into second careers.
“We are proud to continue our support of the Thoroughbred Makeover,” said Stacie Clark Rogers, Operations Consultant, Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. “This event highlights the incredible talent and versatility of retired Thoroughbreds, while shining a spotlight on the people and organizations dedicated to helping them succeed in second careers. It’s a wonderful example of how the aftercare community can come together to give these horses every opportunity to thrive.”
