It’s a proud parenting moment for Kaye Abad as her son Joaquin emerged victorious in his first boxing match at just eight years old!
On her Instagram, the actress shared a clip from the match that was organized by a local boxing gym in Cebu City. In it, Joaquin could be seen making his way to the ring to the ring as the iconic song Eye of the Tiger played in the background.
“My lucid tiger, I’m so proud of you, my love. You were coughing so badly just hours before the fight that we even thought of canceling it but you still chose to step into the ring,” Kaye wrote in the caption.
“What made me even prouder was seeing you look for BJ after the fight, just so you could share your winnings with him,” she added, referring to Joaquin’s sparring partner.
In another post, Kaye took the time to express her gratitude to the people behind Joaquin’s win.
“To Coach Jinggoy, who first saw his potential and patiently guided him every step of the way, thank you for pushing him to do better, for instilling discipline. Joaquin wouldn’t be the boxer he is today without your dedication and heart,” she said.
“To the Omega team, for making training not only effective but also fun. you gave him a second family inside the gym. To Uncle Pao, for believing in him and always cheering him on. To BJ, for being more than just a sparring partner, for being a friend to Joaquin,” she added.
Kaye also thanked her husband, Paul Jake Castillo, who stood by their son throughout his training.
In one of the pictures, Joaquin was seen being a good sport by hugging his opponent after the fight.
Kaye has been documenting her son’s boxing journey on her Instagram account since 2024.
After tying the knot in 2016, Kaye and Paul welcomed Joaquin in 2017. They were later blessed with their second son, Iñigo Leon, in 2021.
