Ryan Garcia isn’t convinced Gennady Golovkin deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame.

Golovkin, longtime middleweight champion, is leading this year’s International Boxing Hall of Fame ballot.

Vernon Forrest and Steve Collins are also in the running alongside ‘GGG’.

The Kazakhstani has been out of action since he suffered his second loss to Canelo Alvarez in 2022, which means he is now eligible for the Men’s Modern category entrance.

As the boxing fraternity share their predictions on who this year’s inductees will be, Garcia has given his controversial opinion.

He said on DAZN’s Inside The Ring: “Triple G had no really great victories.

“I mean, who did he beat?”

As host Max Kellerman reiterated that many believe ‘GGG’ won at least one of his clashes with Canelo, Garcia remained unfazed.

He continued: “I do see that, but we’re talking about Hall of Fame, we’re not talking about eras.

“I’m talking about overall, all of boxing.

“I just don’t see him in the Hall of Fame yet, I can’t give him that nod.”

Garcia’s opinion seems to be a hot-take, as many fellow boxers believe that Golovkin has certainly earned his nomination.

Golovkin began his professional boxing career in 2006, after taking home a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics for Kazakhstan.

‘GGG’ went unbeaten for 18 fights and scored a first-round stoppage against Milton Nunez to claim the interim WBA world middleweight title.

After just four years on the pro scene, he then secured the WBA ‘regular’ belt in 2010, before being upgraded to full champion subsequently in 2014.

In 2015, he then added the IBF world title to his growing collection with a breakout win over David Lemieux.

He went on a 23-KO unbeaten streak, a sensational record before a sensational points win Daniel Jacobs in 2017, which broke his streak but earned him his biggest fight yet.

Canelo and Golovkin fought to a famous and controversial draw in 2017, before being handed his first career defeat in yet another contentious points decision in their subsequent rematch a year later.

But a year after the majority decision loss to his fellow great in 2018, Golovkin became a two-time world champion.

After winning on points against Sergiy Derevyanchenko, he claimed the vacant IBF middleweight title.

Golovkin added to his newly received title against Kamil Szeremeta, before handing the WBA champion, Ryota Murata, a loss via stoppage to unify the division again.

In one final outing, Golovkin faced Canelo for their trilogy clash, but it ended more comprehensively as he fell to a comfortable defeat.

He has been out of action ever since, but remains closely involved with the sport and was recently appointed as the Chair of the Olympic Commission for World Boxing.

Golovkin even recently teased a return to the ring, although he won’t be lacing up his gloves again any time soon.
