Huddersfield Giants

Huddersfield Giants have announced the signing of former Wakefield Trinity forward Mathieu Cozza.

The France international has penned a one-year deal with the Giants and becomes just the second signing announced by the club for 2026, following on from Niall Evalds, who makes the move from Hull KR.

Cozza spent two seasons with Wakefield, helping the club win promotion to the Super League and earn a spot in the play-offs in their first season back in the top flight this year. He made 32 appearances for Wakefield but he was released by the West Yorkshire outfit at the end of the season and it hasn’t taken him long to find a new club.

The forward, who can play in a number of positions across the pack started his career with Catalans Dragons, where he made 10 outings before spending time with both Barrow Raiders and Featherstone Rovers.

Speaking on the deal that sees him making the short switch across the county, Cozza said: “Really pleased that this deal is signed and my future is sorted, I was waiting for the right opportunity and I have lots still to improve on, I’m excited to get started at Huddersfield.

“I’ve been in Yorkshire for three years now, I’m getting used to it and I’m happy to stay here and sign for Huddersfield.

“I’ve been training through the off-season to keep my fitness up, especially with the upcoming international game against Jamaica in two weeks, we’re also training vs Australia too which will be a good opportunity for me.”

Head coach Luke Robinson added: “We’re delighted to get Cozza over the line, there was obviously a spot in the loose forward position with Leroy retiring and we feel that Mathieu fits the bill.

“He’s consistently fit and available to feature which is what we’re looking for in our signings, and we can’t wait to see him in action, we feel he’ll fit in seamlessly with him used to English Rugby League now.”

Huddersfield have teased that more deals are due to be announced this week.
