The Chilean turned his back on the Canaries in the summer to make the controversial move to Suffolk in search of fulfilling his dream of playing Premier League football.

Many wondered if Nunez fully understood the extent of his decision, but the midfielder believes it would only have been significant if he made a similar move in his home country.

“I think I understand, but I am not from England. I’m from Chile,” Nunez told the Ipswich matchday programme. “If I went back to Chile and played for Universidad Catolica’s rivals then it would be different.

“But if a team comes along here in England and wants to win things and give me the chance to play Premier League football, then I’m going to take that opportunity.

“I’m a player that wants to keep improving and I liked the project at this club. Norwich couldn’t offer me the same opportunity. Sometimes you have to take risks. Ipswich gave me a great offer.

“I want to play in the Premier League and I hope that playing at Ipswich gives me that opportunity.”

Nunez admits that adaptation in England has proven difficult, but the experience and opportunity to progress his career has made the sacrifice worthwhile.

“Coming to England was a big change but I settled in quickly. I came with the mentality to prove that I’m talented and to earn my place in the starting XI. But of course, it was difficult at times, being away from home.

“I only really go to Chilean restaurants and Turkish restaurants. I find the weather a bit tough, especially in winter and the language too. I love the football here though, so you forget about the weather when you’re playing football. But that was the hardest thing to get used to.

“When it’s dark at 4pm in the winter, I just can’t believe it. But there are so many things that make up for this,” Nunez said.

“When my agent called me to say that I had the option to go to England, I couldn’t believe it. I was so emotional. I never thought that this would happen for me. I’ve been here for three years, played 130 games and I think I have adapted well.

“I get on very well with the manager. He’s a great person. I thought he was a serious guy when I played for Norwich, but now I know him better, I know that he is a great person. He’s a brilliant boss and will help me become a better player.”
