Steven Gerrard could be returning for round two in Glasgow.
It’s fitting that Brendan Rodgers is in the Celtic dugout because they can resume their battle, but let’s be honest, there was only one winner last time out.
Not only did Rodgers win titles, the last time Gerrard was at Rangers, but the Irishman also secured the Treble, so bring it on again.
Yes, Celtic aren’t producing their usual best and are a long way off it right now, but according to Danny Murphy, there is still a significant gap between the champions of Scotland and Rangers.

Murphy played alongside Gerrard for several years during their days at Liverpool, so he knows his character better than anyone else.
But when talkSPORT raised the topic of Gerrard returning to Rangers, Murphy expressed his concern as to what could be facing his former teammate.
Whilst Murphy thinks Gerrard would have learnt a lot from his failed job at Aston Villa, he thinks it’s ‘impossible’ for him to dethrone Celtic.
Jim White: “I don’t think there’s an element of BS at any time of the day with Steven Gerrard. You know him better than most.”
Murphy: “He speaks there, in that interview with Rio (Ferdinand), like he’s still got desires to manage, and he’s he must have learned a lot from his time at Villa, especially.
“I don’t know about Saudi necessarily, but you’ve got to be stupid not to learn managing clubs of that size, and sometimes you learn more when you fail, so I think he will come back in.
“I’m reluctant to say, ‘I think he should’, because I think that’s a hell of a difficult job, at the moment. Even though Celtic are a little bit behind where they’d want to be, in terms of form, they still win games, they’re still sitting pretty.
“But I think it’s an impossible task, at the minute. That’s a long project. It’s like trying to catch a motorbike on a bike.”
Celtic’s trophy success since Gerrard left
Gerrard left Rangers for Aston Villa during the 2021/22 season, with Celtic going on to win the Premiership title under Ange Postecoglou – and since then, the titles have continued to flow in.
Postecoglou even helped himself to a Treble before he left for his adventure in the English Premier League, as Rodgers narrowly missed out on the Treble last term.
Either way, this is how Celtic’s trophy count has looked ever since Gerrard left Ibrox:
Premiership titles: 4League Cup: 3Scottish Cup: 2Total trophies: 9
