Rasmus Hojlund has continued firing in the goals after departing Manchester United during the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old ended up returning to Italy for the 2025/26 campaign as he signed for Napoli on a season-long loan with a £38.3million buy-obligation clause included in the switch.

After scoring for Denmark during the September international break in his first competitive appearance, Hojlund marked his Napoli debut with a goal against Fiorentina. Hojlund failed to score in his next three appearances, but he returned to finding the back of the net in style with a superb brace against Sporting CP in the Champions League.

Just a few days later, Hojlund scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Genoa and with his confidence levels at an all-time high, it is no surprise at all that Hojlund has bagged while on international duty.

His first strike in the World Cup qualifier against Belarus on Thursday evening came after just 19 minutes when he guided an effort home from close-range. Right on half-time, Hojlund doubled his tally as he again reacted instinctively to tap the ball into an empty net from just a few yards out.

The initial shot that was saved into his path came from Patrick Dorgu with the United wing-back on target just minutes later.

Hojlund turned provider this time when he unselfishly squared the ball to Dorgu after a pass in behind with the partnership showing what could have been for Ruben Amorim. Denmark went on to win the game 6-0.

Despite Amorim’s first United, Dorgu has struggled to tie down a spot in the starting XI and he is often left on the bench against arguably weaker opponents and particularly when Amad starts on the opposite flank with Diogo Dalot deployed in his favoured position.

Three goal contributions for Hojlund is certainly interesting for United considering his struggles at Old Trafford. However, it is worth noting that his replacement Benjamin Sesko is on a scoring run himself.

After a challenging start, the Slovenia international scored his first goal for the club in the 3-1 defeat to Brentford and followed that up by scoring in the victory over Sunderland last weekend, which he described as a “dream come true”.

“This [scoring at Old Trafford] has been the moment I’ve dreamed about as a kid, because the atmosphere here is unbelievable,” he said. “Not just after the goal, but after every tackle as well. It’s a dream come true, I’m happy we won.”
