Oasis star Liam Gallagher joined famous faces from the showbiz and sporting world paying tribute to boxer Ricky Hatton at his funeral in Manchester on Friday.

The rock ‘n’ roll star was among the mourners heading to Manchester Cathedral on Friday morning, and paid his own poignant farewell to Ricky.

Dressed all in black, he attended with his partner Debbie Gwyther and family as well as Stone Roses legend Mani, to pay respects to boxing legend Ricky who died last month at his home in Hyde aged 46.

And in a poignant moment during the funeral service, Oasis classic Live Forever was played out.

Liam was joined by the likes of fellow Manc music stars Shaun Ryder and Bez, comedian Paddy McGuinness, cricketer Freddie Flintoff, club boss Wayne Lineker and boxing stars Tyson Fury, Antony Crolla, Amir Khan, Fraser Clark, Frank Bruno, Barry McGuigan and Tony Bellew at the funeral.

Manchester City legends were in attendance also to say a final farewell to Blues-mad Ricky whose coffin was in sky blue with “Blue Moon” inscribed on the side.

They included Mike Summerbee and Gary Owen, while Manchester United star Wayne Rooney attended with wife Coleen.

And on the way out, Liam paid his own emotional tribute, by blowing a kiss to the Blue Moon coffin as it prepared to take Ricky on his final journey to his beloved Etihad Stadium.

Liam returned to social media after Ricky’s death to pay his own heartbroken tribute to his boxer friend.

In the post on X, he said: “Absolutely devastated to hear the news about RICKY HATTON it was an absolute honour to know him and carry his belts RIP CHAMP LIVE FOREVER LG x”

Oasis also paid their own tribute to Ricky Hatton during their gigs at Wembley last month.

In what was their first UK gig since the passing of the Mancunian boxing icon, the band paid their respects, with a huge image of Ricky flashed up on the screen during their iconic track Live Forever.

Afterwards, the official social media page of Wembley Stadium shared an image of the tribute, with the words, ‘For Ricky’ and a blue love heart.

Ricky was a huge Oasis fan and friend of the Gallagher brothers, who famously carried his belts into the ring before his win over Pauli Malignaggi at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas 2008.

Ricky attended their Heaton Park show and one of the band’s shows in Dublin just weeks before his death, thanking Noel for the tickets afterwards.

Speaking last month, Noel revealed he had been texting him just a week before he died.

“We were texting each other last week,” he said on Talksport. “And I saw him at Heaton Park a couple of the nights, and he was on standard Ricky form. He was wisecracking with everyone, he was having a drink, he was great.

“We don’t know what has happened, but he did struggle with mental health, that’s widely known, and it just shows you that you never really know. It’s such a shame. He’s a great Mancunian.”

Noel described Ricky as a ‘lovely, lovely lad. “One of the lads. He was one of us,” he said.

“It’s sad we’ll never see him at the Etihad again, but that’s life isn’t it,” he added.
