Hull KR majority owner Neil Hudgell says it is difficult to comprehend after a 40-year wait to see his beloved Robins win a trophy, to now be celebrating the treble.

The long-standing owner, former chairman, and the man universally credited not just with keeping Rovers afloat but spearheading the return of the glory days through his investment, departed Old Trafford with the biggest smile possible after see his club invade what had previously been a closed shop of the usual suspects winning the Grand Final.

Rovers 24-6 success capped the greatest season in the club’s history, one which for Hudgell will also take time to sink in. Although as he revealed while celebrating on the pitch with the team, he had a feeling KR’s name was on the trophy.

“This is becoming a regular thing,” Hudgell told Sky Sports, with a big smile on his face. “Three times this year after nothing in 40 years. It’s a bit difficult to comprehend at the minute.

“The boys have been fabulous all year. We win one, that’s great, we win two that’s fabulous, but to win the treble and a new name on the trophy.

“It’s a testament to Willie (Peters), Paul (Lakin) and the group.. I thought this morning when I woke up that we were going to win it. I saw a calm assuredness about the place and I had a feeling it was out time.

“I really am delighted for Mikey and Mini, those boys get some stick that goes way beyond what anyone should get. What they have done is answered it in the best way, with Mikey winning man of the match. I am so proud of what those boys have done.”
