Wigan Warriors have had all the control in the opening quarter of the Grand Final, but they would have hoped to have scored some points off the back of their complete control.

Liam Farrell, who is making his 10th Grand Final appearance tonight, looked certain to open the scoring as he was in support of a Bevan French offload. However, the veteran back rower was unable to collect the ball for what would have been a certain try.

Less than 10 minutes later, French himself looked to cross, capitalising on a magical Liam Marshall kick from the left edge towards the posts. The stand-off was in the perfect position, and caught the ball cleanly, however when putting the ball down it slipped from his grasp, and he knocked on.

After a longer-than-needed video referee decision, the on-field call of try was overturned, and the Robins were awarded a 20m restart.

Warriors fans took to social media to comment on both missed opportunities, with the Cherry and White faithful being unable to believe what they had just witnessed.

Wigan Warriors fans “can’t believe” star man bombs certain try

The talk all came from the French blunder, who had the easier of the two opportunities. Fans were in disbelief that a man who has been a game-breaker on so many occasions could come up with such an error.

@SourEnvy: Can’t believe he’s dropped that. #WWRL

@JoeCost59443590: Just fall to the floor why is he adamant on being stood up to ground it. Just dive and ground it

@moodycow82: Completely bombed that

@gmcneill57: That’s gonna cost us isn’t it?
