Having been stretchered off the pitch during the sixth over of Sri Lanka’s ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 chase against England, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu made a return with the bat later in the innings.
The Sri Lanka skipper was seen limping while taking a run earlier during their chase of 254 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The team physio would rush in to tend to the 35-year-old as she lay on her back at the non-striker’s end.
Soon afterwards, with the game on a stoppage and Athapaththu unable to continue, she was stretchered off the pitch. The batter was unbeaten on seven when she was taken off the field.
