Affirm Press has acquired world rights to I’m Not Mad (Anymore), a debut piece of nonfiction from Bron Lewis, in a deal brokered by Bec Sutherland of Jubilee St Management.
“If you’ve ever cringed as you watched your mum stumble dramatically through hot flushes, or if you’ve soiled your pants in Kmart or found yourself struggling through the seemingly unending chapter of becoming a new mum, then I’m Not Mad (Anymore) is for you,” said the publisher. “Watch Bron spiral into rage and out of it so you can avoid the same fate. I’m Not Mad (Anymore) sheds light on the mental struggles women go through silently, from postnatal depression and anxiety to menopause and all the muck in between. You will laugh, cry and look at your mum in a whole new light.”
Lewis is one of Australia’s most beloved comedians, regularly appearing on Have You Been Paying Attention? and Thank God You’re Here.
She said, “I wrote the book I wanted to read when I was struggling with my mother’s madness, and then my own. We live in a world where women go mad all of the time, and we’re taught to ignore her until she ‘comes good again’. For me, aside from teaching Year 8’s sex ed, becoming a mother was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Every single day was a combination of chaotic noise and deafening silence, and I felt like I was very publicly drowning. This book was incredibly difficult to write, but I am a better woman and mother for it. I hope my humiliation brings you some giggles and, more importantly, some peace.”
Affirm commercial publisher Kelly Doust said, “I’m Not Mad (Anymore) is an important look at female rage, mental health and the impossible standards placed on women. Transforming some of our darkest moments into comedy gold, Bron gives voice to the experiences we often keep quiet about, providing immeasurable comfort and laughs. We couldn’t be prouder to bring Bron’s extraordinary comic talent to the page.”
I’m Not Mad (Anymore) will be published by Affirm Press in March 2026.
