Ryan Lawrie from Strathaven and Jamie Adamson from Fife are The Getaway – an indie pop duo that blends upbeat bops with traditional Scottish sounds.
With inspirations ranging from Runrig and Big Country to The 1975, Ryan and Jamie are looking to blend the two distinctive sounds – and worlds – together.
Jamie said: “I feel like we have both combined our songwriting strengths for this project.
“Although we come from slightly different worlds, we have merged our affinity for pop hooks with the love of traditional Scottish music, creating a sound we feel is both truly unique and representative of both our artistic identities.”

Having officially launched earlier this month, the duo has already caused a buzz on social media. However, the project has been in the works for some time, Ryan revealed.
He told the Glasgow Times: “We’ve been working on this for almost a year behind the scenes.
“It’s been a long process, but we’re really happy to finally be launching. It’s felt so long, to be honest.”

The pair met while attending a writing camp abroad.
Ryan explained: “I met Jamie during a writing camp in Spain. He was the frontman of the Dunfermline band, Moonlight Zoo.
“We got really close, and at the time we met, I was thinking about getting back into the music scene as an artist after taking a big gap to write for other musicians, and Moonlight Zoo were taking a break at the time. We thought we would just dive in and see what music we could create together.
“We’ve been flying in the studio, and the songs have been flowing. It just made sense for us to keep going with it.”
The peak of Ryan’s writing career was working with the South Korean boy band BTS.
“I worked on two number-one albums with BTS, which was the pinnacle,” Ryan said.
He continued: “Up until that point, I had never written for another artist, as no one had taken any of my songs. So, writing for BTS threw me into the deep end of the music industry. It was life-changing.”

But Ryan first got his start in music when he appeared on The X Factor in 2016.
Speaking on the experience, he said: “When I was on the show, I never really knew what my sound was; I was just trying to be a pop star.
“After being on the series, I decided that I wanted to take a back seat and write for other artists because I didn’t want to just be in one genre.
“Being on the show helped me discover where I wanted to go in my career at that point in time. It got my name out there and I’m forever grateful for that.”

Meanwhile, Jamie gained success on the Scottish music scene as the songwriter and frontman of Moonlight Zoo, winning Hard Rock Cafe’s global battle of the band’s competition at the legendary Paramount Theatre in New York.
He has since gone on to tour internationally with the likes of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Cammy Barnes.
