A 13-year-old girl tried to murder her classmate in a Birmingham school by stabbing her in the neck, a court has heard.
The accused pupil shouted ‘die b****’ as she pulled out a pocket knife and repeatedly attacked the girl, also aged 13, in the lobby, a jury was told.
It was alleged in the days before she posted about killing the victim on TikTok and told a friend she was going to stab her ‘cos I can’.
While after the attack she was seen ‘smirking’ in assembly and later wrote in her diary ‘she’s still alive sadly’, a prosecutor said.
The girl, now aged 14, who cannot be identified due to her age, went on trial at Birmingham Crown Court earlier today (Monday, October 13).
She denies a charge of attempted murder and an alternative charge of wounding with intent.
Prosecutor Sarah Slater told the jury there was ‘no dispute’ that she had stabbed the other girl, but the issue they would have to decide was her intent.
Opening the case, she said: “The prosecution’s case is that it involves a plan formed by the defendant to kill one of her fellow pupils.
“She took a knife into school and attacked her, striking her in the neck.
“She didn’t die, though, and that’s why the primary allegation is one of attempted murder.
“It was down to luck, we say, that the victim didn’t die because the intention when you deliberately stab someone to the neck is to kill.”
The jury was shown CCTV of the attack taking place.
Ms Slater continued: “In the days leading up to this incident, she made diary entries and sent messages to friends.
“In those messages, she made it clear her intent, her plan, was to kill her with a knife.”

The prosecutor told the court on the morning of the attack the victim was allowed to leave her form to go to the toilet when she saw a friend and the defendant.
She walked with them when ‘out of nowhere she was grabbed by the defendant’ who she saw had a knife in her hand.
Ms Slater said the victim felt being ‘caught’ behind her ear and also in the chin before her friend got in between and pushed the defendant away.
“After this had taken place, she realised she had three cuts to her neck which had been caused by this assault,” the prosecutor added.
“She remembers the defendant was making comments towards her as this was going on such as ‘die, die b****’.”
Tutors were alerted and took the two pupils to separate rooms. The victim stated there was ‘no history’ between them when asked how the defendant knew her.
Although she confirmed she had been made aware of TikTok posts about the defendant threatening to kill her the previous day, the court heard.
It was said one staff member had overhead the accused girl shouting ‘I want to kill you’ and ‘I hate you’ during the attack.
The jury was then told that the deputy headteacher made the defendant sit next to her for assembly during which she was ‘smirking and laughing throughout’.
The knife she had used was subsequently recovered from a bin in a corridor where she had dumped it.
It was alleged the girl said she had ‘wanted to kill’ the other pupil and ‘didn’t want her to survive’, when police asked her why she had attacked her with a knife.
Ms Slater stated the defendant was suspended and arrested from her home the next day when police also recovered a diary.
She then read an entry made after the attack which said: “Today I tried to stab (the victim) LMAO (Laugh My Ass Off).
“I stabbed her neck but the f****** blade wasn’t sharp enough to cut through.
“Anyways, she’s still alive, sadly, and I’m permanently excluded.
“I just want my phone back LOL. That’s all I care about, honestly.”
It was further alleged she wrote entries about wishing her own mother and father were dead.
Ms Slater told the court that the defendant’s phone was examined, revealing messages to a group chat where she ‘referred repeatedly’ to killing the victim, including the day she proposed to do it.
The prosecutor said in one text conversation she asked a friend to get her a ‘sharp pocket knife’ and sent her a link to one on Amazon.
When the friend asked what had happened between her and the fellow pupil the defendant allegedly replied ‘nothing, not gonna lie’.
And when asked why she wanted to kill the girl the defendant responded ‘cos I can’, the court heard.
It was then said her friend claimed the victim ‘has such a big chance of surviving’ the proposed attack, to which the defendant allegedly replied: “Neck five times she will die on the spot.”
Before the trial started Justice Christina Lambert KC told the jury that certain ‘procedural rules’ would not be followed due to the fact the defendant is a child.
She said that meant the defendant would be referred to by her first name, that she was accompanied by a social worker in the dock and that she had access to some toys to ‘provide her with some comfort’.
Justice Lambert added that the barristers in the case would also be using ‘simple words’ and that there would be regular breaks. The trial continues.
