9. Luke Jacobson, New Zealand

McGeechan’s 2020 prediction:

“Do not be surprised to see Jacobson in the All Blacks’ back row come the 2023 World Cup in France.”

What happened next:
Jacobson became a regular All Black, featuring in the 2023 World Cup, and remains a reliable figure for the Chiefs, anchoring New Zealand’s back row.

10. Jordan Petaia, Australia

McGeechan’s 2020 prediction:

“Having watched Petaia playing for the Queensland Reds, I was struck by how big and powerful he was and how natural he looked with ball in hand. Really good feet as well. Can run over you or around you.”

What happened next:
Petaia became a key player for the Wallabies, playing both centre and wing. In late 2024, he left rugby to pursue an NFL career via the International Player Pathway, signing with the Los Angeles Chargers in April 2025. However, he was waived/injured in August 2025 before the season began.
He has since returned to rugby, signing a one-year deal with French Top 14 club USA Perpignan in September 2025, keeping him in contention for future Wallabies selection and the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
