Liverpool slipped to another defeat in the EFL Trophy when they were beaten 2-0 at Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday evening. A controversial Emre Tezgel penalty and a Dion Rankine effort before the interval earned the League Two side victory, despite Rob Page’s side dominating possession and creating a number of chances.
The result means the young Reds remain bottom of their group ahead of the final match at Chesterfield in four weeks.
The ECHO was in attendance at The Mornflake Stadium and here we run the rule over the performance of the Liverpool players.

Fabian Mrozek 6
Very unfortunate to concede penalty, but good save from Tezgel later in first half and no chance with second. Booked.
Calvin Ramsay 6
Skipper for the evening, always looked eager to press forward and created chance for Sonni-Lambie.
Wellity Lucky 7
After a nervy opening, the centre-back settled and began to use his physical strength intelligently.
Rhys Williams 6
Steady at centre-back and attempted to initiate attacks with passes into midfield. Subbed.
Lucas Pitt 6
Given a lot to do before the break and allowed Rankine to get in behind for the second Crewe goal. Improved after interval.
Michael Laffey 6
Somewhat over-ambitious with his passing at times, but keen to keep Liverpool moving from a deeper midfield role. Booked and subbed.
Jay Spearing 7
Used experience well during his 45 minutes to ensure Liverpool dominated possession and constantly cajoled colleagues. Subbed.
Kaide Gordon 7
A couple of chances to run at the Crewe rear-guard, but often found himself drifting inside and final ball lacking first half. More centrally positioned after interval and had number of chances, one of which he should have scored.
Tommy Pilling 7
Pressed well in the advanced midfield role and began to find good positions before half-time. Good engine.
Trent Kone-Doherty 8
Saw plenty of possession down the left and a real threat with his pace, hitting the post with one shot first half and narrowly off-target with another. Second half more of the same and didn’t stop running.
Josh Sonni-Lambie 6
Making his debut at this level, the 17-year-old didn’t get much service into feet first half but one shot saved by feet of Waller. Began to hold ball up better after break. Subbed.
Ben Trueman (for Spearing 46) 6
Added energy to midfield and made some crunching challenges.
Joe Bradshaw (for Sonni-Lambie 62) 6
The 17-year-old was introduced in an unaccustomed centre forward role for his debut in the competition, and saw one opportunist shot sail over.
Afolami Onanuga (for Laffey 62) 6
Size and strength meant he wasn’t overawed against more senior opponents.
Amara Nallo (for Williams 62) 7
Slotted into the heart of the rearguard and made one good interception.
