Newcastle United want value for money for a player who has just a year left on his contract at BrentfordBryan Mbeumo of Brentford celebrates with team mate Yoane Wissa (R)

Newcastle United have been left frustrated by Brentford’s demands on Yoane Wissa with the Magpies’ Premier League rivals holding out for a huge fee.

Chronicle Live understands Wissa knows the score on Newcastle’s interest, and while he was allowed to depart the Bees’ training camp in Portugal, he will only be permitted to leave the club if demands are met.

Wissa has just a year left on his current deal, but Brentford want a fee north of £40m in total for the striker.

Head coach Eddie Howe likes Wissa, but Newcastle will move on to other targets if they don’t see true value in a deal for the DR Congo international.

Newcastle’s opening bid was £25m and was swiftly rejected with Brentford knowing they can’t afford to let the striker go on the cheap after the departure of Bryan Mbeumo.

His long drawn out transfer to Manchester United is an example of how much Brentford are prepared to dig their heels in on a player’s valuation.

Newcastle are prepared to up their offer on Wissa by £30m plus incentives, but it remains to be seen whether that is enough to satisfy Brentford.

As it stands, Wissa will be expected to team up again with Brentford for preparations for the start of pre-season despite being allowed time to clear his head following transfer speculation linking him with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle.

The fact that Spurs remained linked with Wissa is another concern for Newcastle who are moving dangerously close to the big kick off without any senior back-up for Alexander Isak.

Putting aside Isak’s absence in pre-season matches so far, Newcastle only have William Osula and Sean Neave as recognised striker options at the moment.

When quizzed on incoming business, Howe said at the weekend: “It’s been a really frustrating summer. We’ve been very close to signing several players and for different reasons – there’s not one theme why we haven’t signed more – we’ve ended up missing out on a few who would have made a difference.

“The one most important factor in any transfer is the player has to want to come to Newcastle. We’re a very proud club and are proud of what we do… any player has to feel that. If they don’t… I don’t think it’s a healthy transfer.”I’d say I’m hopeful rather than confident because we’re not in control of the market or agents, players and other clubs. I can assure everybody we are 100% on it and trying to do things quickly.”
