Newcastle United legend Laurent Robert returned to St James’ Park as Adidas moved on to the next phase of their commercial drive with the Magpies.

After a series of successful kit launches and some retro classics being drafted back in, this week will see Newcastle the SPZL F.C. range hit the shelves. Robert has been used in the promotional images which are now being used around the club with the former left-winger pictured alongside England and Newcastle star Anthony Gordon.

The limited-edition products, which are part of the popular adidas Originals range has an impressive nod to club history with the 1976-1983 club crest which features the Magpie, castle and River Tyne. It is the same club crest worn by stars like Kevin Keegan, Chris Waddle and Peter Beardsley back in the day.

The collection will go on sale from 5.30pm, Thursday 16 October, exclusively available at the Official Club Store at St. James’ Park. Fans attending the first-come-first-serve launch will have the opportunity to meet with club legend Shay Given, as well as receiving a free Newcastle United SPZL F.C. gift.

Having already gone to town with a new “terrace icons” range, including drill tops, tracksuits and t-shirts with the 1980s NUFC crest embroidered on the big-selling pieces. Newcastle’s deal with Adidas, who returned last summer, has earned millions for the club with shirt sales flying off the shelves and an Adidas Originals range, along with this year’s “terrace icon” items also proving a hit.

It all points to a successful set of figures when the next set of accounts come out with departing CEO Darren Eales confirming big numbers are in the pipeline.

After signing off from his stint as CEO, Darren Eales, speaking to Newcastle TV, reeled off the successful journey the club have been on in terms of commercial growth and said: “In terms of revenue, we have gone from £140m in 2021 to the coming season because we are in the Champions League, it is going to be well north of £400m.”

The club’s commercial chief Peter Silverstone said last year: “They are iconic pieces and we are working with Adidas to try to bring them back.”

The event on Thursday kicks off at 6pm but United say: “Availability is strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, so early arrival is strongly encouraged. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase the product online at 9am on Friday, 17th October.”
