Iva Jovic has spent more time with Novak Djokovic recently and she has now revealed how those interactions went.

Jovic made history after winning the Guadalajara Open last month, and has since shot up the WTA rankings.

The American is still only 17 years old, and Jovic has been predicted to continue rising up the rankings next year.

Jovic had briefly met her idol Djokovic before, but since her rise up the ranks has spent more time with the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

“I don’t need a selfie anymore! Now we’ve gotten to know each other, we’ve had a conversation, and now we even say hi to each other. He’s really powerful,” Jovic told CLAY and RG Media.

Jovic had previously not been happy with the picture she had taken with Djokovic, but they have been able to develop their relationship more recently.

With a 21-year age difference between the two players, Djokovic has a lot of experience and advice he can give Jovic from his 22 years on the tennis circuit.

They often say that you should not meet your idols, but that does not appear to be the case for Jovic, who has admitted she was ‘a little shocked’ after revealing their interaction.

“It was informal, relaxed,” Jovic said when asked what she spoke to Djokovic about. “He just told me: ‘Whenever you have any questions, I’m here for you.’ He’s very kind, very nice. I was a little shocked, it’s still strange for me that I know him.

“He follows me now, and of course I’ve followed him my whole life. It’s cool that we have a relationship now – I’ll definitely use that and ask him for advice.”

What are Iva Jovic’s plans for the rest of the 2025 season?

Jovic is currently at a career-high ranking of world number 35, and has a chance to be seeded at a Grand Slam for the first time at the Australian Open next year.

However, after winning her first WTA title in Guadalajara, Jovic was unable to continue in the same vein of form during the Asian swing.

The teenager only won two of her six matches in Asia, and Jovic has now returned to the States to conclude her 2025 season.
