Efe Ambrose has hero status at Celtic.

The centre-back spent five years in the famous green and white colours, as well as playing for seven different teams in Scotland alone.

After Ambrose left Celtic in 2017, he joined Hibernian under Neil Lennon and helped them win promotion back to the Premiership.

Yes, Ambrose had a mistake in him, but one thing is for sure: he entertained the masses and was also a character off the field of play.

One man who played alongside Ambrose at Hibs was Stevie Mallan, who is now flying high at the top of the Championship with St Johnstone.

He shared that Ambrose would come to Easter Road in his Mercedes, and he was ‘still talking about Celtic.’

Mallan also described the Nigerian star as ‘the best dribbler’ he has ever seen in small-sided games, but the trophy-winning Hoops star would amazingly ask, ‘how do you pass a ball straight?’

Si Ferry: “Efe Ambrose, is he a hero?”

Mallan: “He is a hero. The best dribbler I have ever seen. In small sides, not on a Saturday. He didn’t pass it. Just dribbles with it.

“Efe was late every day and didn’t pay a fine. That was one of them. Just laughed and didn’t care.”

Ferry: “What was his motor?”

Mallan: “I think he might have still had the Mercedes. I think he has changed now. He was still talking about Celtic when he was at Hibs.”

Ferry: “I have always said this about Efe Ambrose. Can you see why he played for Celtic? Or do you think it’s quite amazing that he did? He played quite a few games for Celtic.”

Paul Slane: “We loved him, at one point.”

Mallan: “He used to ask, ‘how do you pass the ball straight?’ He had that curly toe. He was like, ‘I can pass it sideways.’

“But see as soon as he puts his foot through the ball. It would just go anywhere. I’m pretty sure, at Hibs, he ran through a whole team, got to the edge of the box, and just toe-bashed it over the bar. That sums him up.

“I can see why he played for Celtic. But sometimes you are like ‘how?’. But he is a legend of a guy.”

Where is Ambrose now?

Well, Celtic legends played a charity game against Feyenoord’s legends in Rotterdam over the October international break, and Ambrose featured.

But, in terms of his professional career, the 36-year-old is still going and playing on the Scottish domestic scene.

After playing for Workington, who are in the seventh tier of English football, last season, Ambrose decided to move to Glasgow United this summer.

Glasgow United are in the ninth tier, including, and this won’t shock anyone, but Ambrose turned up late for his debut against Ardeer Thistle.
