Harvie Hill will arrive at Hull FC pre-season training next month with one goal in mind: hard work and nothing less. The former Wigan Warriors prop has signed a four-year contract at the Black and Whites and is one of eight new signings at the club for the 2026 season.

And with depth and competition sought across the board, the 22-year-old is ready to get stuck in alongside his new teammates and force his way into head coach John Cartwright’s side.

But the Cumbrian front rower, who has risen through the Wigan system over the last few years, knows there’s a battle on to do just that, but it’s one he’s ready for – with a big pre-season campaign getting underway on November 3.

“I’ve got to go there and work hard and prove to the boys that I can get in that team,” he told Wigan Today on his move to Hull FC. “A massive pre-season is ahead of me and then we’ll see what happens from there. Hopefully (I can get in the team), but with the team they’ve got at the moment, it’s not guaranteed that I will get into the 17.”

Buoyed by a much improved year from Hull, with a play-off finish now the goal, Hill, who believes he can grow at the Black and Whites and improve as a player, continued: “They’ve had a good year this year, and hopefully I can add something to the squad.

“I’m really excited that I’m there for a long time, and hopefully I can build. I feel like I’ve got a lot of work to do in the way I play; I can get better, and I feel like it’s the right place for me, so I’m really excited.”

Winning the World Club Challenge against the Penrith Panthers, Hill has spent his entire career with Wigan to date, rising through their scholarship and academy system – and was ironically signed by Matt Peet when the all-conquering coach was involved in the club’s youth programmes.

“I was about 14 or 15 when I joined the scholarship,” Hill said. “It was actually Matty who signed me and brought me in. I think he was the coach of the academy at the time, so when they were signing me, I came down and had a meal with Matty and stuff.

“Matty and all the coaches have been massive for me. When you sign so young, you’ve got so much to learn, and I’ve learned a lot from Matty and all of the coaches here over the years. I’ve loved every minute of it (being at Wigan). It’s been special – I’ve been part of a very special team.”
