Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has delivered a scathing verdict of three players at Old Trafford who he believes are not good enough to play for the clubPaul ScholesPaul Scholes claims three Manchester United players can’t cope with the demands of the Premier League

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has blasted Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Casemiro and insisted all three are now not good enough to cope with the physical demands of the Premier League.

The former United midfielder-turned-pundit claims the trio have dropped to a level that is below what’s required, suggesting none are strong or quick enough.

Neither Maguire, 32, and Shaw, 30, featured in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the October internationals, while 33-year-old Real Madrid icon Casemiro’s fitness has been a concern ever since his arrival in Manchester.

In an interview with The Times, Scholes said: “Shaw, Maguire, Casemiro, they’ve all been great players but they’re at a stage of their career now where you get found out in the Premier League if you’re not physically good enough.

“Their bodies are not athletic enough, they’re not strong enough, they’re not quick enough. They’ve dropped to a level where they can’t cope with what’s needed in the Premier League.

“Every player in the Premier League is an absolute machine. They’ve got five per cent body fat, they can run, they’re strong, they can head it. Manchester United are carrying two or three players that are just not capable of living with it.”

Ahead of Sunday’s showdown with arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield, Scholes has outlined he believes United were ‘sucked into’ signing the Brazilian from Real Madrid, after parting with £70million to sign him from Real Madrid three years ago.

“We got sucked into that one, and there’s been quite a few like that,” Scholes said.

Fellow former United midfielder Nick Butt also agreed. He said: “Real Madrid don’t let their best players go. [Raphaël] Varane and Casemiro were both unbelievable players [earlier] in their career.

“They’ve done more than I’ve ever done, so it’s difficult to have a go at them, but Real Madrid don’t sell their top players to a European rival in Man United.”

Maguire is looking to get a new contract at Old Trafford, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the campaign.
