Police have been given extra powers in Formby due an increase in anti-social behaviour. Merseyside Police have now issued a section 35 dispersal zone around Duke Street park, which will run from 5pm today, Friday, October 17 until 5pm on Sunday, October 19.
The force said the order comes after an increase in anti-social behaviour where people have damaged property and put people “at risk of injury.” The order covers the area of Long Lane footpath, Church Road, Liverpool Road, Altcar Lane, Hoggs Hill Lane, the railway line, Kirklake Road, Woodlands Road, Wicks Lane and Freshfield Road.
The section 35, which is under the Anti-Social Behaviour and Policing Act 2014, gives officers and police community support traffic officers powers to; require anyone to leave the area and prevent them from returning for up to 48 hours, require a person to surrender items that can be used to cause anti-social behaviour and send under 16s home or to a place of safety.
Sefton neighbourhood policing Inspector Graham Fisher said: “The dispersal zone is just one tool used to help combat anti-social behaviour in the area which has been causing damage to property in the locality and putting the community at risk of injury.
“More officers will be in the area and if they suspect or witness anyone causing anti-social behaviour they will be dealt with through the powers of this order.
“We take reports of ASB extremely seriously and share the views of most people who believe this behaviour has no place in our communities.
“We would urge parents/guardians to know where your children and young people are and who they’re with, to ensure they don’t become involved in situations which could cause disruption or distress.”
