Coronation Street star Vicky Myers has said she’s at a ‘loss for words’ as fans flooded her with support following a huge personal triumph.

The actress, who is best known and dearly loved for playing DS Lisa Swain in the ITV soap, has for the past five years been fundraising for her local community in the lead-up to Christmas.

Alongside her friend and fellow actress, Erin Shanagher, who has starred in The Bay and Peaky Blinders, the pair teamed up to create the Secret Santa Hamper in 2020.

It was set-up in a bid to help families in Greater Manchester who were in food poverty during the festive period, by providing essential food hampers.

The original post on their Go Fund Me page: “Since then, with the support and generosity of the public, we have created and delivered over 2000 food hampers to children and their families during the Christmas holidays.

“To mark five years of Secret Santa, again with your much valued support, we aim to raise a phenomenal £15,000 so we can help 1000 families this Christmas.

“Last year, we were inundated with requests from schools with young children who were in food poverty and in need of help. So, this year, we aim to help even more families across the borough by increasing the fundraising total to fulfil the aim of creating 1000 essential food hampers.”

Vicky shared the amazing update on social media

After the support flooded in, including from Corrie fans, the opportunity to donate officially closed on Friday (October 18) and Vicky admitted to being overwhelmed by the amount raised, which stood at £30,555 at the time of donations stopping.

Resharing a post from the Secret Santa Hamper Instagram page, Stockport-born Vicky told her Instagram followers: “I’m at a loss for words. Thank you from the bottom of my heart [crying face emoji]. You did it!”

The original post read: “£30,555 [shocked face emoji]. This is extraordinary. You’re the best!” Meanwhile, Vicky also shared her post on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “#Thankyou,” and fans were quick to respond.

Your kindness towards those in need started it, & your kindness towards us made everyone want to help you… It’s brilliant YOU who is the common denominator of all this kindness! Big up you & Erin. So much love for you, Vicky… you’re a little bit of magic.”

@RedWineSwarla replied: “Thank you for organising such a worthy cause. So many families will have a great Christmas. So happy to have been a small part of the donations.” @chloeolivia__ added: “Thank YOU for everything you’re doing! you’re really making such a difference, it’s such an amazing cause!!”
