Last week we asked you for your thoughts on how we should reconfigure our Phone Finder tool to make it easier to find foldable phones with the right dimensions. Here’s how the voting went.

The majority of people prefer that only folded dimensions are used when filtering phones based on their thickness, width and height. People had a simple reason for voting this way – most of the time, the phones stay folded. You carry them closed, of course, but with the rapid improvement of cover displays (especially on flip foldables), you can get a lot done without opening the phone.

Poll results: thank you for your suggestions on improving the Phone Finder's search for foldables

The other large group prefers filtering by the folded thickness, but using the unfolded dimensions for width and height. The thinking behind this choice is similar, though the scales tip the other way – you still carry the phone folded, but you use it open more often than you do closed.

The two different styles of foldables do tend to be used differently, which makes it harder to come up with a single solution that works well for both. At least there are only two major styles, seeing how rollable phones never took off (remember those?).

Besides the poll, we also read all the comments and we will consider all suggestions. The tricky bit is that we want an interface that is intuitive for new users while still being powerful enough to allow advanced users to narrow down their search criteria.

We are still debating what the best approach is and will update you when we settle on a solution. Note that we will need some time to update not just the Phone Finder itself, but also our database. Thank you for your ideas and suggestions!
