Clementine’s Guest House, which is at 4-5 St Peter’s Grove, came second after appearing on Channel 4’s Four in a Bed at the end of last month, despite receiving all 10s in every category – scores which are believed to be the highest in the history of the show.
The programme features B&B owners and hoteliers who stay in each other’s property, give feedback, and pay what they consider to be fair for their stay, with the winner being the property who offers best value for money.

The 4-star York guesthouse has 28 rooms and has seen rave reviews from guests who have stayed; it is part of the Harrogate-based Fat Badger Group, which has seen another of its venues – The Black Horse Inn at Kirby Fleetham – win the show.
Clementine’s was represented by former manager Lucy Neville and current manager Laura Johnson, who came up against three other hotels – Haystacks Country Retreat in Birstwith (near Harrogate), The George Inn in Tideswell (in the Peak District), and Cherry Tree Guest House in Bridlington.
Laura said: “We all offer something different and we all do an amazing job. It was a really good experience – we met lots of lovely people and got to visit lots of nice places. The feedback we got was great too.”

Lucy, who worked as general manager of the hotel in the past, also joined Laura for the show.
She added: “I’ve actually been stopped in Morrisons by people who had seen the episode and recognised me.
“It’s been amazing to see our hard work pay off like this; we aren’t a big company – we’re special and we’re all there when something goes wrong. That score is representative of who we are.
“It’s humbling to see how everyone helped and to get that honour from other hoteliers is really special. It’s an honour to be able to work here.”

Simon Cotton, Managing Director at Fat Badger, said that business had boomed since the hotel’s appearance on the show with over £20,000 of bookings taken in the 24-hour period since their episode, with many asking to stay in the rooms featured in the show.
He added: “The girls did phenomenally well – each interviewee they just heaped praise on them. We see ourselves in a brilliant light after this and I’m just so proud of Lucy and Laura.”
Simon added that the payment that the hotel was given on the show – which made up the final totals and dictated the overall winner – is made up of an average of all nights over the three month period prior to filming, which took place during the hotel’s summer season where rooms are at their highest price.
This meant that despite receiving 10s across the board from their fellow hoteliers, they came in second place in their value for money.
