Police team up with council and supermarket chain to take action after Stoke-on-Trent Live puts spotlight on long-running issueStaffordshire Police outside Longton Tesco

Longton Tesco will shut its car park after hours to deter boy racers from meeting there. Staffordshire Police has confirmed that officers have teamed up with Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the supermarket chain to tackle a problem which has been ongoing for the past decade.

Last Sunday around 40 vehicles congregated on the car park for an illegal meet before being moved on by police. The same issue occurred again on Friday night.

To tackle the issue, officers will be supporting the closure of Tesco’s car park once the supermarket is closed today (19 October). Inspector Rebecca Price, of the Stoke-on-Trent south local policing team, said: “We have teamed up with local partners to address issues that matter to local communities the most.

“We fully support the closure of Tesco’s car park after hours and anyone not on the car park legitimately will be dealt with robustly. Officers will be issuing Section 59 notices to illegal and anti-social drivers and seizing any vehicle which has already received a notice in the last 12 months.”
