In another low for physical game releases from Microsoft, it has been discovered there’s only 1.32GB of data on the PS5 disc for The Outer Worlds 2, which launches on 29th October 2025.
Word comes from Does It Play?, where an early physical PS5 copy reveals there’s just 1.32GB of data on the actual disc, which contains the 1.0 version. You’ll then need to download a 71.6GB update to actually play the RPG via patch 1.002.
It can then be played offline, but you still need the internet connection in the first place to pull that initial update. Without it, the title won’t play.
As expected because of the internet required banner, Outer Worlds 2 physical will not play from just the data on the disc. Contains only 1.32 GB’s of data. Game itself is about 77 GB’s total so it would have fit on a single PS5 disc, just like Doom The Dark Ages would have. pic.twitter.com/n2uTdBkDLY— Chris | DoesItPlay 💿 (@Chris_TV_Live) October 20, 2025
Games published by Microsoft have developed a track record over the past 12 months of poor physical releases, with most boxed versions requiring downloads in order for the games themselves to play. This has included Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and DOOM: The Dark Ages. We now have The Outer Worlds 2 to add to the list.
The Outer Worlds 2 launches for PS5 on 29th October, or you can gain access later this week via a Premium Edition offering four days of early access. The base PS5 title received a price drop prior to release, but this more expensive version didn’t. It’s still sitting on £89.99 / $99.99.
Does the PS5 disc having such little data stored on it put you off buying a boxed copy of The Outer Worlds 2? Let us know in the comments below.
