Choosing an internet provider can be overwhelming. Our data-driven, expert-reviewed ranking system makes it easier by delivering unbiased, transparent and actionable insights. This methodology explains how we evaluate and score the best internet service providers in the United States.
How we collected verified ISP data
We sourced official information directly from websites of 34 national and regional cable, DSL, fiber, fixed wireless, satellite and 5G ISPs in the United States. All data was verified as of October 2025, and ongoing provider updates are reviewed quarterly to ensure current pricing and availability.
How we weighted ISP ranking criteria
When evaluating internet service providers, we applied a weighted scoring system to reflect what matters most to consumers. Here’s why each factor counts:
Affordability drives consumer choice. Lower monthly costs make service accessible and competitive.
Customer Satisfaction (20%)
High satisfaction indicates reliability, responsive support and transparent billing — key factors in long-term trust.
Fast downloads enable smooth streaming, browsing and large file transfers, essential for everyday use. Upload speed impacts video calls, cloud backups and content sharing — critical for remote work and creators.
Low latency ensures responsive performance for gaming, video conferencing and real-time applications.
Coverage determines accessibility. Great service is irrelevant if it’s not offered where customers live.
Unlimited data prevents overage fees and supports heavy streaming or remote work, adding flexibility.
Contract Flexibility (2%)
No-contract options give customers freedom to switch without penalties, adding convenience in competitive markets. Each ISP’s composite score reflects both performance metrics and overall consumer value.
Technology Adjustment
DSL is being phased out and offers limited scalability compared to fiber or cable. To reflect long-term viability, DSL providers receive a −0.08 adjustment to their weighted composite score. This adjustment helps rankings prioritize modern, future-proof technologies while still recognizing active DSL service in underserved areas.
