Forget the rallies — Donald Trump’s latest tour is marching through America’s streets, troops in tow, and according to the 47th president, the next stop is San Francisco.
On Sunday, golf icon Phil Mickelson took the opportunity to show support for Trump’s plan, when he quote-tweeted California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who wrote, “Nobody wants you here.”
“This isn’t true at all. We are begging for him to come save this former great city(and more),” Mickelson wrote, via X/Twitter.
“We’re also begging him to save the entire state from our inevitable energy crisis.”
This back and forth all stems from a clip of an interview with Fox’s Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures,” in which Trump heaped praise upon San Francisco and vowed to “make it great” again.
“San Francisco was truly one of the great cities of the world,” Trump said, via X/Twitter, “and then, 15 years ago, it went wrong. It went woke. …
“We’re going to go to San Francisco, and we’re going to make it great … it won’t be great, if it keeps going like this.”
The Trump administration has faced criticism for its use of military forces in American cities. To date, he’s deployed troops in the nation’s capitol, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Memphis, Chicago and Portland.
He has repeatedly characterized certain cities — especially those run by Democrats — as being in a state of crisis, with crime spiralling out of control and local authorities either unable or unwilling to act. As a result, he’s suggested helping these cities by using them “as training grounds for our military, National Guard, but military.”
According to The Global Statistics, crime in San Francisco is in a steady decline, which is probably why Gov. Newsom is rejecting the president’s offer.
