It’s one of Greater Manchester’s very best restaurants and now Stockport’s Where The Light Gets In has confirmed a major change as it marks an important milestone in its journey.
Since opening in 2016, the restaurant has played a key role in the regeneration of Stockport’s Old Town and raised the bar for fine dining across the North West with its daily changing menu served in a hidden dining room inside an old coffee warehouse Stockport’s cobbled streets.
Led by Stockport-raised chef-patron Sam Buckley, it has received both local and national praise, and picked up a number of awards along the way including a Green Michelin Star in 2021 due its unwavering commitment to sustainability.
In a new update shared on its social media channels earlier today, Sam and the team explained that things at the restaurant “are set to change”, with a big update to their prices.

“Since we opened the doors of Where The Light Gets In 9 years ago, our intention has always been to create an experimental place where people can gather over real food and engaging conversations,” they wrote on Instagram.

“Our restaurant has always been rooted in the work of farmers, fishers and winemakers we now know by name.
“As we move forward, we’re making a responsive shift. From 4 September things are set to change.
“To start off, we’ll be serving a 5-course sharing menu at £75pp. It’s still Where The Light Gets In, with the same radical commitment to sourcing, but at a lower price and in a format that feels more open, generous and relaxed.
“We will keep the kitchen counter available for walk-ins, pouring low intervention wines from the cellar and offering bar snacks.
“Bookings for the month of September open at 11am. We look forward to seeing you soon.”
The venue, which also picked up Restaurant of the Year at the 2022 Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards, as well as 4 AA Rosettes in the AA Hospitality Awards for 2023, currently invites guests to sample its fine dining menu which is priced at £125pp for dinner on Wednesday and Thursday and for lunch Saturday only.

It’s currently £140 per person for Friday and Saturday dinner, according to their website, with a wine pairing priced at an additional £80 per person.
The new menus represent a significant reduction in price, and one that is more akin to the cost of a meal there when they first opened – and the significant change wasn’t lost on their customers and followers.
“The food and experience was worth every penny before, but very happy that I’ll be able to come more often at this price point. Looking forward to trying,” wrote one on Instagram.

“Access is everything in the fight for a more sustainable world so this is opening up a world for more people that maybe couldn’t afford it before. Nice work,” added another.
Earlier this year, the much-loved eatery ventured beyond Stockport and hosted a five-month programme which took place in venues across Manchester City Centre.
As part of its ‘second act’, they took over The Bungalow at Kampus and transforming it into a fast-food diner with ‘nose-to-tail’ burgers, alongside mushroom popcorn but required a £40 deposit, which got some people talking.
