Suki Panesar made an unexpected decision on EastEnders as Avani Nandra-Hart’s pregnancy storyline took another twist.
It was confirmed earlier this week that Avani is pregnant, with the teenager electing to keep the news between herself and close friend Barney Mitchell. However, despite her plan of secrecy, Suki discovered the truth when she caught Avani looking up abortion clinics online.
Thursday’s (24 July) instalment began with Avani reiterating to Suki that she planned to have an abortion, explaining that she wanted to have the procedure done quickly before her parents found out. Suki, however, urged her to think things through.
As Suki and Eve’s relationship continued to be strained, Avani confided in Barney that she was unsure about what to do. Suki later sought guidance from Granthi, expressing conflict regarding her religious beliefs and wanting to do right by step-granddaughter.

Suki got some perspective from Jean Slater, whose own granddaughter Lily welcomed a child at a young age. Despite acknowledging the various challenges, Jean shared that Lily and the family wouldn’t change anything.
Suki later made amends with Eve, admitting that she had been more distant due to Vinny’s impending departure. Though conceding that she had made some mistakes, Eve called her wife a “warrior” for “protecting” her children.

She waited for Avani to return home and confessed that she couldn’t support her decision to have an abortion, though the teenager was adamant that she wasn’t at the right stage in her life to raise a child.
Suki, however, proposed a different arrangement as she suggested that she could raise Avani’s child as her “own”. Will Avani agree to it? And will Suki attempt to get Eve’s approval before making such a decision?
EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
