It was everyone’s favourite week on the Great British Bake Off tonight, Dessert Week. But unfortunately, things didn’t end sweetly for one contestant, who narrowly missed out on the semi-final.
Tonight, Channel 4 viewers watched on as the remaining bakers, Aaron, Jasmine, Iain, Toby, and Tom, made Spanish-style cheesecake, gluten-free sponge, and a tricky trifle – but things came crashing down for one contestant.
At the end of a dramatic week, and some struggles with cheesecake, it was time for the trifle showstopper – and it was Jasmine who impressed Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, winning star baker on a week that really mattered.

Unfortunately though, it was a sad farewell to Iain Ross, 29, who was almost left in tears at the end of the showstopper, telling cameras he had the “worst feedback” out of them all.
“I’m very proud of making it this far, I didn’t think I’d make it past the first few weeks. We’ve had the best group of bakers, I’ve made some great friends, it’s just been fantastic,” he said upon his exit.
Fans were left gutted, as they took to X, formerly known as Twitter to express their sadness. “Awww Iain was the funniest one in the tent!” while another said: “Noooo Iain!”

“I will need 10 days mourning please,” said a third sad fan, with another penning: “Absolutely devastated our Short King is gone. He deserves the world and should have been in the final.”
“Ok I’ve just realized that regardless of who goes I’m gonna be traumatized… PLEASE LET US KEEP THEM ALL!” another fan exclaimed.
Last week, fans were left fuming as hairdresser Lesley became the seventh baker to be eliminated from the show after struggling during the show’s first-ever meringue-themed week.
Lesley, 59, from Kent, admitted she had expected her departure. “Do you know what, I knew it was coming,” she said.
“It’s like ripping the plaster off! Thanks so much for the experience, it has been amazing. I couldn’t get my meringue right and had resigned myself to the fact I’d be going. But I’m proud that I made it to week seven. The other bakers gave me a massive cuddle, which meant the world.”
“I’m really sorry to see Lesley go,” Prue Leith said about her exit. “She’s a remarkable woman and, in a way, she’s my ideal baker – she’s just really having a good time. That’s what Bake Off is all about.”
