Eight people have received £1,000 fines for fly-tipping in Hull. Bags of waste, broken-up furniture and other items were dumped in parts of the city.

In the eight separate incidents, the offenders were caught disposing of waste in West Parade, Worthing Terrace, Stepney Lane, New George Street, Carrington Street, Worcester Road, and two instances in Worthing Street. The waste fly-tipped on West Parade and New George Street was dumped on the footpath near on-street litter bins.

Hull City Council is urging residents to “make use of the multiple authorised waste schemes and services available”. It also issued a reminder that placing bagged waste of bulky items next to on-street bins in illegal and classed as fly-tipping.

Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment, said: “Fly-tipping is a crime, and we do not tolerate it in Hull. It is unsightly, potentially harmful to human health and damaging to the environment.

“These fines could easily be avoided if people disposed of their waste correctly. There are a number of services, schemes, and waste centres in Hull that residents can use to ensure waste is disposed of correctly and our communities are kept clean.”
