Behind every good rugby league winger is a good centre. That’s certainly the case for Hull FC’s Lewis Martin, who rose in the Black and Whites side this year alongside another local talent, Davy Litten.

Together, the Hull-born duo formed a strong partnership on Hull’s left edge, with Martin playing every minute of every game and Litten also ever present once coming back into the team at the end of March from injury.

Slick with the ball, the duo, along with the likes of Aidan Sezer, combined for some of the best tries Hull scored all year while also improving as the season went on in defence, and for Martin, amid some stern competition from both new signings and current players ahead of 2026, it’s a partnership that’s only going to strengthen in the years to come.

“He’s been massive,” Martin, scorer of 32 tries in 30 games this year, replied when asked about his centre partner. “I think Davy’s had a big year with a lot of improvement in his game. We have gelled together really well, especially in the second half of the season, and I’m thankful for the role that he played.

“Our combinations and understandings have got better and I think that showed in our performances on the field. He set me up for a few tries; there were some walk-ins there but we also broke away for some tries as well.

“I think defensively we’ve improved as an edge too. I just love playing with Davy and we’re really good mates off the field. We’re both still young and we know we can get better if we keep on working hard and that’s what we’ll aim to do.”

Martin’s success this year wasn’t just noticed at Hull, where he was crowned the club’s Player of the Year. Further afield, the winger was also included in the Super League Dream Team and nominated for the competition’s Young Player of the Year award.

The 22-year-old’s accolades were a reflection of a campaign that was night and day for the Hull squad compared to 2024, which brought some pride back to the club – and had fun doing it.

“Obviously last year, it was a tough year for a lot of us young boys,” Martin added. “We had to mature quickly, and coming into this year, we had to step up to the plate and rise up a level. I think we did that. It’s just been really enjoyable. I can’t wait for next season now.”
