Uncertainty over Benvenuto Cellini’s participation in Saturday’s William Hill Futurity Trophy has resulted in his Aidan O’Brien-trained stablemate Hawk Mountain replacing him at the head of the market for the final Group 1 of the season.
After bolting up in a Killarney maiden in July, Benvenuto Cellini put in one of the most visually impressive juvenile displays of the season when powering five lengths clear to land the Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown last month. Like many of Ballydoyle’s juveniles, the Frankel colt holds multiple entries between Doncaster and France this weekend and O’Brien reported on Wednesday that Doncaster is currently the intention but that nothing has yet been confirmed.
Ballydoyle are responsible for a raft of entries between the Futurity Trophy and Saint-Cloud’s two Group 1s on Sunday, with the likes of Benvenuto Cellini, Hawk Mountain, Action and Pierre Bonnard all doubly or triply entered.
